How In-Home Therapy Works

What an in-home
session actually looks like.

No clinical waiting rooms, no rushed handoffs. Just consistent, one-on-one therapy woven into your child's real day, with you in the room.

1
Arrival

We come to you

Your therapist arrives on schedule. Your child greets them in a space where they're already calm and comfortable.

2
Warm-Up

Connect first

A quick check-in: how's your child feeling today, and which toys or games are they drawn to right now?

3
Learning

Play-based ABA

Goals are met through play, using your child's own toys and rooms. Games, songs, puzzles: therapy hidden inside the things they love.

4
Handoff

You're on the team

Before leaving, your therapist shares what went well, what to practice, and the day's notes, so progress keeps going after they go.

In-Home vs In-Center

Same evidence. Very different day.

Both are real, both work. But for most Wilmington families, the place therapy happens changes everything about how, and how fast, skills stick.

Our focus
In-Home ABA

Therapy where life happens

  • Zero commute. No stressful car rides, more time, less logistics.
  • Familiar setting. Kitchen, bedroom, backyard, the rooms your child actually lives in.
  • Skills transfer naturally. Learning to ask for help at the real dinner table needs no translation.
  • You're in the room. Watch, learn the strategies, and reinforce them every single day.
  • Schedule that flexes. Mornings, afternoons, spread across the week, around your family.
vs
In-Center ABA

Therapy at a clinic

  • A daily round-trip commute, tough on routines and on the road.
  • A clinical room your child has to adjust to before learning can begin.
  • Skills sometimes stay at the clinic and need re-teaching at home.
  • Parents often wait in a lobby rather than learning alongside.
  • Fixed center hours that have to fit around school and work.

Great for some families, and we'll tell you honestly if it's the better fit for yours. Both are evidence-backed.

Not sure which fits? We'll help you decide on the call, no pressure, just an honest recommendation based on your child.

In-Home Care That's Hospital-Backed

Your living room.
Hospital-grade standards.

Most in-home ABA is run by stand-alone agencies. Ours is built and governed inside a hospital system. The same oversight that protects kids in a pediatric hospital protects your child on your living-room floor.

Partnered Care

The only Wilmington in-home ABA backed by a top pediatric hospital system.

Every treatment plan meets the clinical standards of Children's Specialized Hospital, the nation's leading pediatric rehabilitation hospital, and plugs into the RWJBarnabas Health system for referrals and specialist access when your family needs more.

Clinical oversight, in your home

The same quality-and-safety review that governs hospital care signs off on your child's in-home plan. Nothing improvised.

Accountability you can name

A named BCBA owns your child's plan and answers for it, backed by a health system, not a 1-800 number.

A bigger team behind the door

If your child ever needs more than ABA, direct hospital-system referrals mean no starting over with strangers.

Family Helpline (201) 719-8222

Average response time: under 2 hours.

What happens during an in-home session?

Your therapist comes to your home at a scheduled time and works with your child on individualized goals through play, using the toys and rooms you already have. You're involved throughout: learning techniques to reinforce skills, seeing progress firsthand, and getting a session update before the therapist leaves.

How do I prepare my home?

Hardly at all. A space where your child can focus helps, but real-world rooms are the point, kitchen, living room, backyard. That's exactly where skills need to stick. Our therapists are experienced working in homes of every kind.

What about therapist safety and background checks?

Every therapist completes a comprehensive background check and screening before ever working in your home. Your child's safety is non-negotiable, and our hospital-grade governance holds us to it.

Do you accept Medicaid in North Carolina?

Yes. We accept NC Medicaid and handle verification and pre-authorization for you. Most families pay nothing out of pocket. We also work with most major private carriers.

How soon can we start?

No waitlist. If we have availability in your area, your child can start within 1–2 weeks of your initial consultation. Call and we'll get the process moving the same day.

How is in-home different from in-center therapy?

In-home brings therapy to where your child actually lives, no commute, familiar surroundings, skills that transfer naturally, and you involved in every session. In-center happens in a clinical setting, which suits some families. Both are evidence-backed; we'll help you choose what fits your child best.

Which Wilmington areas do you serve?

Wilmington and surrounding areas including Leland, Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Hampstead, and Brunswick County. Call to confirm your specific location.

What if my child isn't diagnosed yet?

A diagnosis is typically required for insurance or Medicaid to cover ABA. We can connect you with qualified evaluators in the Wilmington area and talk through your options on the call.
